  • Abstract

The article points out the need to assess the professional nature of political activity, for which it sets out the minimum quality requirements it should possess. It is organized in three parts. The first part addresses the issue of parties in Latin American political life, both its presence and its discreditable controversy. The second part expounds on the theme of the professionalization of politics. The third part explains about the quality of politicians. Thus, a core component of the quality of democracy is linked to the relevance of political parties and to the importance that should be given to the professional nature of their activity. This will facilitate the selection, training, promotion and openness for accountability.
