Las instituciones de la democracia directa a escala nacional en América Latina. Balance comparado: 1978-2009

Abstract

The transition to democracy in Latin America has two phases: the 1980s, which had great progress on democratic matter and 1990s, characterized by the crisis of representation of the party system and growing dissatisfaction with politics. Constitutional reforms and the introduction of direct democracy mechanisms used to deal with it. To determine to what extent these institutions of direct democracy are here to stay and what were their main effects in relation to problems for which seek to address are the central goals of this work, which in compared coded, covers 18 Latinoamerican countries from the starting date of the Third Wave in our region (1978) until June 2009.
