Latinoamérica: Radiografía de las barreras político-electorales

Abstract

At present the electoral system is one of the most importat element for the governance, the democratic consolidation and its functioning. This one has a very importat influence in the possibilities that the political parties have and, inside these, the candidates to obtain positions in the government or to obtain a major participation in the Congress. The present study does a rigorous review of the natural and explicit thresholds in the electoral system in 18 countries of Latin America; It tries to supply, from a compared perspective, a theoretical, conceptual and empirical frame that allows people to make an own judgment on the topic and to predict the impact that the issues raised would generate on its own political systems.
