El impacto de la reforma de 2014 en la destitución de autoridades electorales locales en México

Abstract

The 2014 electoral reform in Mexico has had a significant impact on the electoral system, especially on the designation of subnational level electoral authorities and their attributions. The Mexican subnational electoral model includes administrative and jurisdictional electoral authorities. Before the reform, the designation of electoral councils and judges was an attribution to the local congresses. The electoral reform modified this designation mechanism. Now the national electoral authority has the attribution to appointing the local councils and the Senate of the Republic to the electoral judges, thereby seeking less interference from local political elites in the authorities' decisions. In this sense, councils and judges' destitution is the responsibility of the institutions that appointed them. The paper seeks to compare the dismissals that occurred from 2015 to 2020 in both subnational administrative management bodies and electoral tribunals.
