Abstract
The Primary Elections of the 2022 Regional and Municipal Elections in Peru could be one of the most transparent in its history, thanks to open data. Although, since the primary elections of 2020, this type of process has had the guarantees offered by the participation of the three electoral bodies, in this particular process, the National Office of Electoral Processes (Onpe) carried out the continuous dissemination of open data. Thus, from January to June 2022, citizens could access quantitative and qualitative data on the Primary Elections through the Internet. In this exploratory analysis, three central issues regarding this process are analyzed: a) the response of the electoral bodies to pressures from the Legislative to make the electoral calendar more flexible or modify it, b) the characteristics of the actors who participated as members of the political organizations (candidates, affiliates, members of the polling station, delegates), and c) the behaviour of these actors, manifested in the preferences for one of the two modalities of primary elections, electoral participation, types of vote, the decision to present more than one list of candidates, and the application of the criteria of parity and alternation.
