Gobierno representativo en la república temprana: debate, elecciones y pugna (1822-1828)

Abstract

This article analyzes the implementation of the representative system from the rising of the Peruvian republican state occurred in 1820’s decade. Following political culture perspective, it focuses on the expectations and ideas of the principal political actors about representative form of government. Additionally, it considers the values and meanings attributed to some aspects of such form —suffrage, electoral colleges, and deputies— after the independence. Three moments are studied: 1) The Patriotic Society; 2) Elections to the Congresses of 1822 and 1827; 3) The public life of José de la Riva Agüero y Sánchez Boquete, including his allegation Exposición written in the exile.
