La revocación de las autoridades regionales y municipales

Abstract

The Constitution of 1993 introduced diverse mechanisms of direct citizen participation, including the revocation of regional and local authorities. The weaknesses of representative democracy explain the introduction of these mechanisms. The recall of elected authorities is opposed to the mandate representative and admits the imperative mandate, so it only applies to regional authorities and local administrations. This article analyzes different aspects involved in the recall: e.g. its subjective scope, timeliness, initiative, justification or reason, validity and enforceability of popular decision, effects at a regional or local government, and also effects on the authority recalled.
