The Invisibles: Young Women and Parliamentary Political Representation

  • Abstract

    The percentage of young women in Latin America and the Caribbean is 25% (ECLAC, 2020). Thenfor the political participation of women as parliamentarians should be a similar proportion. This paper analyzes whether the greater the advance in gender electoral reforms, the political participation of young women as legislators also increases in 5 countries of the region (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia and Mexico). This study analyzes the age restrictions to access parliaments, the number of women under 40 in legislatures, and the progress towards substantive equality achieved by each country.
