Voto electrónico en Ecuador: un reto cumplido y la puerta a la automatización electoral

Abstract

On the way to the forefront, the National Electoral Council of Ecuador, since 2004, has been running the implementation of electronic voting in parishes of the different provinces. Automating the vote was made gradually, analyzing the perception of the electorate and using electronic systems in countries through cooperation agreements. The big challenge for Ecuador arrived in the local elections on February 2014, which was implemented in two provinces: Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas and Azuay, using two different technologies in both cities. The process was successful. The entire process of voting, counting, transmission and tallying of results took place quickly, fluidity and transparency. With such success, Ecuadorians are projected into the future to achieve a fully automated elections, using technology adapted to the reality of the country’s electorate.
