Jueces de paz del Perú. Perfil, modalidades y contextos de elección durante los siglos XIX, XX y XXI

Abstract

The first justice of the peace in Peru date back to the 1820s and have since then become an entity of local authorities sui generis in the history of the country. There is no other local authority that administers justice in the name of the State, by virtue of the choice or proposal of its own neighbors and it does not need to prove knowledge in law matters. In this sense, this article explains the main changes and continuities in the profile of this local authority, as well as the modalities by which they were elected or appointed, and the main difficulties in conducting the processes from 1823 to the present.
