Democracia e interseccionalidad: cuotas y participación política de las mujeres indígenas peruanas

Abstract

This article aims to raise an introspection and a proposal based on gender and indigenous quotas in Peru. The results of the evaluation of these mechanisms show that the women and indigenous authorities have increased; however, there are still difficulties regarding the position of these candidates in the nomination lists, and the absence of mechanisms to identify indigenous peoples persists, as well as the political culture that discriminates against women and indigenous population. This essay takes up these balances to propose an analysis on the intersectionality of these two mechanisms and how they operate in the Peruvian political system. A comparison is made with other countries where these mechanisms have been used and, based on these results, the possibilities to strengthen the political participation of indigenous women in Peru are assessed.
