Participación juvenil en las elecciones internas del Partido Nacionalista Peruano

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to approximate the factors that prompted members of the Peruvian Nationalist Party to participate as candidates for the district youth secretariats of Metropolitan Lima in 2014. In view of the little attention received by the internal electoral processes of Peruvian political parties, a qualitative approach was chosen. To address the behavior at the individual level, eight candidates were interviewed considering the Theory of Reasoned Action. The limitation of the sample was partly offset by the two years that the ethnography lasted. The study identified 23 factors: 21 beliefs (five of behavioral type, six normative and ten of control), the organizational culture of the party and its electoral regulation. It was agreed to call this culture pragmatic self-criticism, defined as one that questions the distribution of power in the organization with the objective, above all, of obtaining selective incentives over teleological ones.
