Sufragio femenino en el Perú en las Juntas Municipales Transitorias de 1945

Abstract

There is normative, administrative and hemerographic evidence regarding 1945 woman´s suffrage in Peru, to install Transitory Municipal Boards. The Boards were promoted by the Peruvian Aprista Party (APRA) from the Congress. Between September and October 1945, there were Peruvian women who voted and were elected. This happened in indirect elections of two degrees according to the Law N.° 10233. The right to municipal women's suffrage, contained in article 86 of the 1933 Constitution, was applied for the first time in 1945. This article addresses the political and legal conditions that allowed such events. Likewise, the dynamics of elections and women's suffrage in, and their access to public service, with emphasis on the case of Dora Madueño, Peru's first mayor in 1945, all this within the framework of the milestones in the Peruvian women's struggle for their civil and political rights.
